Know What’s Really Organic I really never know what to get organic because it seems like they’re selling everything organic these days. Luckily ChasingFoxes created a quick list of items to buy organic and what not to buy organic. “What NOT to Buy Organic: Mushrooms, avocados, pineapple, onions, mango, asparagus, sweet peas, kiwi, cabbage, papaya, watermelon, broccoli, and sweet potatoes. What You Should Buy Organic (a.k.a. “The Dirty Dozen”): Strawberries, apples, nectarines, peaches, celery, grapes, cherries, spinach, tomatoes, sweet bell peppers, cherry tomatoes, and cucumbers.” Source: www.chasingfoxes.com/ways-save-money-grocery-store/
Have Some Meatless Meals I’ve been saving this since last year “I need to eat less meat” yet here I am eating meat with almost every meal. I need to have designated meatless days not only to help my body, but to also help my budget.
“Include a couple of vegetarian options in your menu each week. Our breakfasts and lunches are typically vegetarian (if we aren’t having leftovers) and then we also have at least one or two meatless suppers a week. It really does make a difference and no ones going to complain about Alfredo Sauce or cheese and veggie pizza.” Source: www.fromthiskitchentable.com/10-ways-to-drastically-lower-your-grocery-budget/Shop with a plan, create a list before you go. I know it seems simple, duh Candice of course you should walk into the store with a plan. However there have been many times where I walk into the grocery store freestlying.
That’s usually when I end up spending more than I planned. Also having a plan helps me from making multiple trips to the store. Which alone will save you money. If you can make one trip to the grocery store a week you will save so much money. “This is the simplest thing you can do – make a list of what you need at the store. While you may still be tempted to vary from it, I’ve found that when I make a list – rather than just walking aimlessly around the store – I spend less, buy less impulse/unnecessary purchase, and my grocery shopping trips are quicker and more efficient. I try and keep a notepad on our counter or a magnetic one on our refrigerator so I can write down items that we need to buy. If you meal plan, making a list of all the items you need to get is even easier!” Source: www.clarkscondensed.com/thrifty-living/ways-to-stick-to-your-grocery-budget/Use Grocery Store Apps The top grocery apps I’ve heard of are:
